Briançon is a French commune located in the department of Hautes-Alpes (of which it is the sub-prefecture) en  region   Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur , and historically attached to  Dauphiné . It is the central city of a small agglomeration of six municipalities, the urban unit of Briançon . The territory of which Briançon is the main town is called  Briançonnais  ; it covers the north of the Hautes-Alpes department. Briançon is considered the highest town in France (1 326 m)  .

Its fortifications of  Vauban  (the city walls, the forts  des Salettesdes Têtesdu Randouillet) have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List   since July 7, 2008 alongside the eleven other sites of the  Network of major Vauban sites

Serre Chevalier:

Serre Chevalier, in Briançonnais, (nicknamed " Serre Che ") is a winter sports resort located in the Guisane valley in the Hautes -Alps, Southern Alps, near Ecrins National Park. It occupies the Guisane valley from Briançon to Monêtier-les-Bains. The resort has 250 kilometers of alpine ski slopes between 1,200 and 2,780 meters above sea level. This makes it one of the largest estates in Europe.

La Claree...

The Clarée Valley, near Montgenèvre and Briançon and stuck to the Franco-Italian border, is a classified natural site, offering exceptional landscapes, nature and preserved heritage. It is crossed by la  Clarée .

Between 1 400 and 2 000 m, the valley, very snowy in winter, is a patchwork of larch forests and winter forests.
